Can I use a Hot Tub all year round?
With it now being in the full swing of summer, most people are spending time and money on their outdoor spaces- including thinking about adding the number one luxury item…a Hot Tub.
In recent years, Hot Tubs have become more and more popular and with people’s increasingly busy lifestyles- it’s the ultimate place to relax in the comfort of your own home.
With so much choice out there, it can be pretty confusing to know what you’re buying and getting the most out of your money- especially thinking ‘Am I just going to use this for few weeks in the summer when the weather’s nice?!’
So, let’s begin to answer some of those first questions about some of the key things that you need to know when planning to enjoy your home Spa all year round and making sure you are getting value for money.
Is it possible to use a Hot Tub throughout the year?
We’re often asked during the summer months by first time customers if they should drain their Hot Tubs during the winter or if they should only be used in the summer months.
The answer is: no, you don’t need to drain your Hot Tub outside of summer and you can, in fact, enjoy your Hot Tub all year round as you can actually adjust the temperature to suit the weather!
We think this misconception comes from inflatable spas, as these do need to be drained in the winter months as they can’t be used under 4 degrees. Also, there high running costs would be extortionate in the cold as they already run around £3-4 a day in the warmer months, to run them in the cold would have you digging deep in your pockets!
Our Artesian Spas are actually amazing in the winter and we get many returning customers, who originally bought their Hot Tubs during the warmer seasons of spring or summer, say that they loved having a Hot Tub to enjoy both in the summer and in the winter, with winter being the time they can get the most use out of their Spas! Also spending time in their outdoor space, that usually come October time, would leave unattended until the Spring.
Why should I invest in a Hot Tub that can run all year round?
It might not seem like it at first, but there’s actually no reason to close down and drain your Home Spa during the winter months in order to protect it. Due to the amount of research that Artesian have invested into their products, you are able to count on Artesian Hot Tubs that are designed to be used all year round due to a multitude of customisable features such as in-built insulation, temperature controls and much, much more!
Actually, it’s possible that you can do more harm to your Hot Tub by closing down for the winter improperly! If you were to switch off the Hot Tub for the winter, there is a chance that the smallest bit of water left behind in the Spa will freeze. This is really not wanted in your Hot Tub as it can cause cracking and potentially leaks. But, for whatever reason you need to close down your Spa over the winter, we would recommend getting a professional company carry out a ‘Closedown’ which ensures it is completely dry and no water would be left in the pipework.
We also find that many people usually don’t get much use out of their gardens come the later part of the year, and a solid Hot Tub is the answer to this exact issue. Having a Hot Tub that can be used all year round means that you will always have an opportunity to enjoy its warm bubbly waters, whether in an intimate setting by yourself or even with close family or friends! Have fun enjoying your garden all year round staying relaxingly warm with your Hot Tub whilst you enjoy quality time in the fresh air with family or friends. The more opportunities there are to enjoy this Hot Tub throughout the year, the better.
Is it more expensive to run a Hot Tub in the winter?
The answer totally depends on which Hot Tub you decide to buy. As mentioned earlier, inflatable tubs cost around £3-£4 per day in the warmer months to keep warm, so inevitably will be even more in the winter. They just don’t have enough insulation to keep the water warm. However, Artesian Spas run on about £1-£1.50 per day due to their insulation within the cabinets, which keeps the heat of the water in the spa rather than escaping through the plastic lining like an inflatable. It is so important to do your research on the manufacturer of the Hot Tub you’re looking to purchase, especially when it comes to running costs. Artesian Spas use an insulation called ‘Full Foam’. It comes in standard on some of their Hot Tubs and can be added on as an optional extra if it doesn’t. For more information, check our other blogs on running costs or Full Foam
What are the health benefits to using a Hot Tub in other seasons?
We always say at North Outdoor Living that your Hot Tub is the best tool for hydrotherapy there is. Not only do you get a full heat massage to take pressure off of your muscles and help you relax, but you also get to enjoy the whole experience while doing it.
Your Hot Tub is a brilliant use of outdoor space for your own health and there are a number of health benefits associated with regular Hot Tub use. Hot Tubs can have a number of very beneficial physical health benefits if used throughout the year. The steam produced by the Hot Tubs can actually help your respiratory system, as they can help open your sinuses and lungs. Also, adding Hot Tub aromatherapy to your water such as an eucalyptus and peppermint Liquid Pearl that we regularly stock is perfect if your suffering with a cold.
People often suffer from chronic conditions that are worse during the colder seasons such as arthritis, joint pain and other conditions that cause stiffness. This is due to the cold forcing your body to pull blood toward your most vital organs and leaving your joints to ache more than usual. Arthritis and joint pain can actually be relieved by Hot Tubs as the temperature and the feel of the water relaxes your muscles, decreasing tension and improving your flexibility and blood flow. The weightless feeling of being in a Hot Tub can also help relieve your joint ache.
This is the same for headaches, as they can be relieved by the warm water from a Hot Tub, dilating your blood vessels and decreasing the pressure in your head. This will also give your heart a work out, allowing it to benefit from this experience all year round.
The poorer weather and less sunlight we get during the winter months, especially in the UK, can have a serious effect on our mental health as well. This is largely because we are spending more and more time indoors, reducing our exposure to daylight, fresh air, talking to people and vitamin D.
